AI Stole my Job.

It happened gradually, the way most revolutions do — one small automation at a time. At first, I laughed when AI started writing emails faster than me. Then it learned how to format spreadsheets, schedule meetings, and even come up with “better” jokes for our marketing copy. The last straw was when it started giving better advice to my coworkers than I did. That’s when I realized: I had officially been out-performed by a glorified algorithm.

At first, I went through the five stages of digital grief. Denial: “It’s just a tool.” Anger: “No machine can understand human creativity!” Bargaining: “Maybe if I learn prompt engineering I’ll still be relevant.” Depression: “The AI doesn’t even take lunch breaks.” And finally — acceptance. Not the happy kind, but the “fine, at least it doesn’t drink all the office coffee” kind.

But here’s the weird part — I’ve come to appreciate it. The AI didn’t just take my job; it took all the boring parts of it. The endless edits, the repetitive emails, the midnight formatting fixes — gone. In their place, I get to think again, to plan again, to actually create instead of constantly catching up. Turns out, the thing that replaced me also freed me.

Now my new role is… well, “collaborator” might be a stretch, but “co-worker” feels about right. The machine drafts, I polish. It generates, I guide. Together, we produce work faster and cleaner than I ever did alone. Maybe AI didn’t steal my job — maybe it just changed what the job is.

So yes, the robots came for me. And yes, I lost a few tasks along the way. But I also gained time, focus, and, oddly enough, perspective. Because if an algorithm can out-write me, maybe it’s time to stop competing with it — and start letting it handle the boring stuff while I handle the human part.
